Hi,

I must be taking the long method on this. Any advice would be appreciated. I would like to add CD Text to my CD's that I'm burning. The best way would be to get the info from CDDB services. Currently I use this process, which seems unnecessarily long.

1) Download full SHN from archive
2) Use MKW to convert to wave
3) Burn to CD-RW disk
4) Copy disk with Roxio, SonicStage, or WinMP. At this point, it will get the info from the CDDB. The newly created disk is ready to go.
5) Erase CD-RW
6) Start again with next disk.

Is this it, or is there an easier method?

CDDB has the live shows information as well? That surprises me. For all bands or just some?

I'd concur with another poster -- burning to CD-RW is unnecessary. Depending on what your burning software can do, you should be able to either burn straight from the file you downloaded or decode it to something you can burn then specify names, performers, etc. in some cue sheet.

It mainly comes down to learning what your software can do and learning what else is available to do the task you want to do. Also, check out your CD burner -- some can only read CD Text, some can only write CD Text, some can do both, some can do neither.

I use K3B and it can burn straight from FLAC or Ogg Vorbis files (FLAC is lossless, Ogg Vorbis is lossy but high quality). K3B's frontend allows me to type in title and performer data if I want it (or if I want something different than what comes with the file), then burn it to the CD as CD Text.

Hi,

Thanks for all the responses. Here is the deal. Yes, almost all of the dead shows I download are available in the database!! This is very cool, as it automatically adds the correct song titles as well as the date and show info. However, these databases don't seem to work unless they see the tracks on a CD. That is why I first burn to CD-RW. Once on the CD-RW I then directly copy to CD-R, at that point it automatically adds the correct song list and show info from the CDDB because it sees it on a CD.

So the question is, is there a way to do this without having the songs on a CD? Then I could skip the CD-RW step. Or maybe there is some other way, seems too complicated?

I like having the info on the CD's as I have a 400 disk CD-changer that automatically reads the data and make them easy to store, and more importantly to find again!

Thanks again for all the comments, still looking for an elegent solution...

BTW - a lot of people must have spent an enormous amount of time getting the data into these databases, so we should make use of them. It is awsome to have a whole list of cryptic GD73-10-17.xxxx.shn. titles, automatically change to song names and a show title!!

Ive only got 1 player that can even read any of that info so I dont really worry about it too much
I used to when I got started .. but I jsut dont have the time to put in info that will probably never get displayed anyway

Good Luck!!

I dunno man ..
I dont understand why you burn them to a CDRW first and then copy..

I just decode them to WAV and then burn them to a CDR
Before I burn I add any text like track names and Artist name or CD title ect.

I guess I dont understand your question
